Text of the Proclamation by the City and County of San Francisco:

 

Whereas, Lee Mallory, a songwriter, recording artist, founding member of The Millennium and other bands, contributed to originating the California Sound of the 1960s that continues to draw talent to this state and this city from all over the map, and

Whereas, Lee Mallory entertained countless visitors to San Francisco in his years performing at the Cannery, and

Whereas, Lee Mallory has long been a beloved performer citywide at open mics in North Beach, the Sunset District, South of Market and lately at San Francisco State University, and

Whereas, Lee Mallory serves as a mentor to San Francisco singer-songwriters of three generations and all backgrounds in our burgeoning open mic scene, most notably the Hotel Utah, and

Whereas, Lee Mallory has survived addiction, liver disease and cancer; and is in the process of becoming eligible for a liver transplant at UCSF, and

Whereas, Lee Mallory recently completed San Francisco General Hospital's non-smoking class and has earned a certificate of achievement from the San Francisco Department of Public Health Tobacco Free Project Stop Smoking Program, and

Whereas, Lee Mallory is contributing to the overall health of his community because he has inspired numerous young singers to stop smoking in his wake, and

Whereas Despite all odds, Lee Mallory celebrates his sixtieth birthday and seven weeks as a non-smoker with a feature performance at Hotel Utah's legendary open mic on Monday, January 10th 2005 at 10pm

Therefore, The City and County of San Francisco hereby proclaims this day, January 10th, 2005, Lee Mallory Day in San Francisco.
