The Hotel Utah
Saloon has been a landmark establishment in San Francisco since the
beginning of time. The old building, which has been home to countless
musicians and entertainers in the San Francisco arts community,
featuring one of the longest running open mics known to man, now
faces destruction. "A sign of the times," many say. "Just another
casualty in the face of endless development and greed," say many
others.
It has been my privilege and
pleasure to be a part of the great community that has gathered on a
regular basis to express their music and respective art forms at the
Utah. I humbly offer these songs, all recorded live - raw and without
overdubs, as my contribution to what has been nothing short of magic
along my own musical path.
My thanks to Dayla Soul, Keith
Savage, Bob O'Magic, and everyone who's contributed and made a
difference at the Hotel Utah.
Thanks also to Alex James
Muscat, who recorded the first four tracks live at our July 14, 2003
feature; and to JJ Schultz, who has been at the Utah with his
recording equipment faithfully for the past year or more. JJ recorded
the remaining three tracks. You Won't Know My Name" Feb 3, '03;
"Greener Side" Oct 15, '03; and "Chrysalis" (a tribute to the memory
of our own Hiram, "Negro Blues Piano Man") Aug 25, '03.
We, of course, will move
forward. This time at this place will live on, in love and
remembrance,
Bryan
